A BioCentury Quick Guide
BioCentury’s Innovation Distillery is a powerful new tool within the BCIQ database designed to help you discover high-potential biomedical innovations without requiring hours of literature review.
The database provides indexed Analyst Briefings of scientific papers that identify targets and compounds with the highest potential for translation into medicine, helping you make informed investments and strategic decisions faster.
While in BCIQ, click Innovation Distillery from the navigation bar.
The Innovation Distillery allows you to view data from two different modes:
Use the Keyword Search bar to explore any of your interests. For example, you can search by molecular targets, mechanisms of action, therapeutic modalities, and more.
Under Explore by Disease Biology, Select Indication(s) allows you to filter by the disease category.
Note: Hold Ctrl or Command while clicking to filter by more than one data attribute.
Click the arrow next to the disease category to see the associated standard indications for more specificity.
Under Explore by Origin, Select Geography allows you to search by specific markets, countries and states (U.S. only).
Smart Filters allows you to search for studies that feature patient sample data, have filed patent applications or are already patented.
Use the Publication Year filter to focus on studies published during the desired time frame.
Note: The publication year refers to when the study was published in the scientific journal and may differ from the year the analyst briefing was added to the database.
Once you have applied the desired filters for your search, you can use the charts to quickly visualize the associated data sets.
Click within any chart from the Disease Category and Origin modes to narrow down the search further by disease, country, affiliated target, innovation class, etc. Once again, you can use Ctrl/Command to select multiple data attributes.
Click the BCIQ Profile link in the Affiliated Target chart to explore the BCIQ Target Profile. See the BCIQ Profile Reports Quick Guide for more information on what is available through BCIQ profiles.
The table at the bottom of the Innovation Distillery will show the Analyst Briefings and many data points, such as Journal, Patent Status, and Experimental System, that breakdown the primary publications in detail. Scroll to the right in the table to find more data points.
Click the Analyst Briefing to explore BioCentury’s analysis of the study.
The brief will also include key data points such as target, experimental systems, license status and contact information.
Click the BCIQ profiles for Companies and Targets to the right side of the brief to explore each in detail.
To export the table to Excel, hover over the table and click the three horizontal dots (More options) at the top right corner of the table.
Click Export Data, choose either Data with current layout, or Summarized data and click Export.
Note: Links to the Analyst Briefings and Primary Publications can be found in the last two columns of the excel sheet.
