Once connected, you can ask Claude natural-language questions and receive answers grounded in BioCentury's curated insights and analysis — without leaving the Claude interface.

CRC - BC Connector for Claude Getting Started 

To install the BioCentury Connector for Claude, you will need the following: 

- **An active BioCentury subscription** that includes connector access. Not sure if your plan qualifies? Contact [support@biocentury.com](mailto:support@biocentury.com).
- **A Claude account** for either **Individual users** (Free\* or Pro) or for **Organizations** (Team or Enterprise). 
- **Your BioCentury login credentials** (email address and password) for authorization. If your BioCentury credentials include Single Sign-On (SSO) access, only your email address is required. 

For Team and Enterprise Claude accounts, an organization Owner or Admin must enable connectors in Admin Settings before individual users can add them. If you do not see the connector options described below, contact your Claude organization admin.

### How to install the BioCentury Connector for Claude as an individual user

You will need the **BioCentury MCP connector URL**, which is provided by BioCentury. Contact [support@biocentury.com](mailto:biocentury.com) if you have not received it. 

Follow the steps below to connect the BioCentury Connector using Claude's custom connector setup. Once you install the connector, you will be able to use it on multiple devices, including Claude desktop, Claude mobile and the Claude website. 

**1. Open Claude Settings** 
Log in to claude.ai. Click “Customize” in the left rail menu of icons.

**2. Navigate to Connectors** 
In the Customize sidebar, select Connectors.

**3. Add a Custom Connector** 
On the Connectors page, click the “+” icon then click “Add custom connector”.

**4. Enter the BioCentury Connector URL** 
In the custom connector dialog, paste the BioCentury MCP connector URL provided by BioCentury into the URL field. Give the connector a recognizable name — for example, BioCentury. 

**Note:** If you have not received your BioCentury MCP connector URL, contact [support@biocentury.com](mailto:support@biocentury.com) to request it.

**5. Save and authorize** 
Click Save (or Add connector). You may be prompted to sign in with your BioCentury email and password — if so, enter your credentials and click Authorize. 

**Note:** Your credentials are used only to verify your active subscription. All data transfers are encrypted.

**6. Confirm the connection** 
Once saved, the BioCentury connector will appear in your Connectors list. You are ready to use it in Claude.

### How to install the BioCentury Connector for Claude as an organization user

If your Claude organization administrator has added the BioCentury Connector for your organization, the following instructions enable it for your individual Claude account. 

You can only set up the initial connection in the web browser. Once connected, you can access the connector through multiple platforms, including Claude desktop and the Claude app. 

**1. Open Claude Settings** 
Log in to claude.ai. Click **Customize** in the left rail menu of icons.

**2. Navigate to Connectors** 
In the Customize sidebar, select **Connectors**.

**3. Connect to BioCentury Connector** 
Use the search bar or click the **Browse** button to search for “BioCentury Connector”, then click **Connect**.

**4. Authorize** 
When prompted, sign in with your BioCentury credentials, accept the [BioCentury AI Terms of Use](/privacy-legal/ai/biocentury-connector-terms-of-use), and click **Allow access** to authorize the application.

**5. Confirm the connection** 
Once saved, the BioCentury connector will appear in your Connectors list. You are ready to use it in Claude.

Organization Users

Once the connector is set up, here is how to activate it when starting a chat: 

**1. Open a new conversation in Claude.** 

**2. Click the + (plus) icon or the tools icon in the message toolbar.**

**3. Select BioCentury from the connector list.** 

This activates the connector for your current and future conversations. When active, Claude will draw on BioCentury content to answer your questions.

**4. When asking your question, prompt Claude to use the connector.** 

- Include a phrase like "using BioCentury analysis" in your prompt to make sure Claude draws on BioCentury content rather than its general knowledge.
- To prompt BioCentury only, state this in the prompt. For example: "Using BioCentury insight only, summarize recent deal activity for in vivo CAR T cell therapies."
- To use BioCentury information and the web, state both sources. For example: "Using BioCentury insight and the web, summarize recent deal activity for in vivo CAR T cell therapies."
- To use BioCentury information and other connectors, state both sources. For example: "Using the BioCentury connector and ClinicalTrials.gov connector, give me the CAR T cell therapies currently in Phase II trials for multiple myeloma." 

**5. Claude will confirm you want to use the BioCentury connector after your first prompt.** 
 
Click “Always allow” or “Allow once”. This can be changed later as needed.

**6. Provide Claude with guidance on using the BioCentury Connector.** 

Click your initials in the lower-left corner, go to **Settings**, then **Profile**. There you'll find a text box for instructions Claude keeps in mind across all your chats. Just add a line like: 

`When using the BioCentury connector, always include the source link for each article you reference.` 

Save it, and from then on it applies to every new conversation without you having to ask. 
 
**7. Ask questions using BioCentury Content** 

Examples: 
- Using BioCentury analysis, summarize recent ADC licensing activity.
- Based on BioCentury coverage, compare the leading TIGIT programs. 

You can also combine BioCentury with other connected tools: 

- Using BioCentury and PubMed, summarize the latest KRAS G12D therapeutic developments.

**5. Continue the conversation** 
Follow-up questions continue using the BioCentury Connector unless you change the selected tools.

### Manage your connected services 

1.	Navigate to **Customize → Connectors**.
2.	View all your connected services in the Connectors section.
3.	For each service, you can disconnect it, modify connection settings, or review permissions and access levels. 

Key points to note: 

- You can have multiple connectors active in the same conversation — just toggle on each one you want at the start of the chat.
- You control which one Claude uses by how you phrase your prompt — mention the source explicitly, e.g. "using BioCentury analysis"
- You can combine them in a single workflow — e.g. ask BioCentury for competitive landscape context, then follow up asking for active trials on the same target from ClinicalTrials.gov, all in one conversation. 

 
### Choose how the connector loads in your conversations 

Claude supports three tool access modes that control when and how your connectors are loaded into a conversation. Understanding these modes helps you get more accurate, efficient results — especially as your connector library grows. 

Once the BioCentury connector is active, set its Tool access mode. Open the **+** button in the lower-left of your chat (or type /), hover over **Connectors**, then **Tool access**.

**Recommended Mode: Load tools when needed** 

For most BioCentury users, this is the best tool access setting. 

Claude uses the connector only when you ask. Connectors are not loaded until Claude specifically searches for the right one based on your request. This prevents Claude from querying BioCentury when you have not asked it to, keeps more conversation space free for your documents and analysis, and gives you direct control over when BioCentury data is used. 

To make sure Claude uses BioCentury when you do want it, always include "using BioCentury data" or "based on BioCentury coverage" in your prompt. This signals Claude to find and use the BioCentury connector for that request. 

**Mode: Tools already loaded** 

All your connectors are loaded at the start of every conversation. Claude can use any of them immediately, without searching first. This works well if you have fewer than 10 connectors and use them constantly — but it means BioCentury may be queried even when you have not asked for it. 

**Don't want to use the BioCentury Connector in a chat?** Toggle the connector off from the same menu — your other connectors and your BioCentury subscription are unaffected.

Managing Connectors

**No option to add a custom connector** 
Confirm your Claude plan supports connectors (Pro, Team, or Enterprise). Your org admin may need to enable the feature in Admin Settings first. 

**Connection fails after entering the URL** 
Check that the URL is exactly as provided — a missing character or extra space will prevent the connection. Contact <support@biocentury.com> if the URL needs to be re-issued. 

**Authorization fails.** 
Confirm you're using the credentials for your active BioCentury subscription. Reset your password at [login.biocentury.com/forgotpassword](https://login-biocentury-com.proxy.lib.umich.edu/forgotpassword) if needed. 

**Claude isn't using BioCentury information.** 
Make sure BioCentury Connector is toggled on for the current conversation.
Prompt Claude explicitly, for example: 
`Using BioCentury analysis...` 
or 
`Based on BioCentury Content...` 

**The connector was working but stopped.** 
Try removing and re-adding the connector from **Customize → Connectors**. If the issue persists, contact <support@biocentury.com>.
